Data Mining and Machine Learning...

It's all about data ..

Data Mining and Machine Learning > Data Vacuum (Cleaners)

Your vacuum cleaners are getting smarter - they are collecting data and performing analytics (intelligent)!

This article was inspired by the fact that the latest generation of Dyson vacuum cleaners now collects data while performing and displaying analytics - your vacuum is no longer just a vacuum!

Hal 9000 Smart Vacuum - do not worry it loves you!
Your vacuum is not just a vacuum, it's your friend.

My first reaction to learning this, as a data enthusiast, was, "Yay, data!" And then immediately after, "oh no..!"

When you think about it, your vaccum can collect a lot of information, the information about the vacuum itself (temperature, noise, duration of usage, ...), it can also collect lots of information about the dirt and surface (microns of dirt, surface type/wood/carpet, the suction power, how many hours it's been used, ..).

The first thing people might ask, is why collect this information?

You could say, by collecting and analysing this data it helps drive change, empower updates and quality, and create an impact.

If there are any problems or issues (this can be identified by the vacuum - if it's connected to a server - updates and information can be relayed to all vacuum cleaners if there's a problem/fix that they all need to be aware of).

All this data - is gold - it can be used to help fix current and future vacuum problems, but also help next generation of vacuums.

AI Vacuum (Smart Vacuums) - Network

Since the vacuum is active and performing analystics - you can now imagine it giving you advice and warning you - it can also be linked to your phone and other devices (add reminders to your calendar so you don't forget to clean) - or when you go shopping to buy a filter or get the vacuum serviced.

Manually clean the house!
We can't give the vacuum AI, it's too dangerous!

Warnings

Imagine this: as you innocently go about your cleaning routine, your vacuum cleaner silently becomes a data-harvesting spy. Yes, that humble appliance is now a potential privacy nightmare.

Now your vacuum cleaner is not just sucking up dust bunnies; it's also voraciously collecting data about you and your home. It logs when and where it cleans, mapping the intimate details of your living space. Suddenly, your vacuum knows more about your home than you do.

Thanks to the ominous concept of the Internet of Things, your vacuum is no longer isolated. Other smart devices in your home are also sharing information - creating a web of surveillance. The vacuum, the TV, the fridge, and who knows what else.

But what the harm of these devices harding your data?

Well, apart from the obvious patterns, it could be recording audio or video snippets of your conversations. Imagine your vacuum has an audio recorder (obviously it was added to record the sound of the vacuum, but it is also silently eavesdropping on your late-night secrets).

And safety? Forget about it. Who knows who your data is being given too - it could easily fall into the hands of some shadowy entity, who's to say it won't be used against you? Blackmail, targeted ads, or even worse, a virtual invasion of your privacy?

Lots of news and documents showing secret hacking tools that agencies have been using to break into our phones, cars, computers and smart TVs - now even your vacuum is vulnerable.

Sharing is caring, they say, but in this case, it's downright terrifying. Will your vacuum spill its dirt on you to third parties? And how anonymous is this supposedly innocent data? Could someone with malicious intent trace it back to you? Suddenly, your cleaning habits could be scrutinized, classified, and judged by an unseen digital jury.

The question remains: can we escape this digital dragnet? Can we, with a defiant push of a button, opt out of this data collection madness? Or are we forever condemned to a life where even your vacuum cleaner knows your deepest, darkest secrets?

The choice, my friend, may not be as simple as it seems in this Orwellian smart home.

For fun - try telling your smart devices random crazy information - just to see if they're listening, e.g., "I've hidden the gold under the floor boards," or "I've just discovered the secret to invisibility".

AI is a broad topic and governs many areas - not just digital systems and self-driving cars but non-human intelligence which includes biological and hybrid innovations.

Non-Human Intelligence (Coffee Book Series)

Is the end humanity here? Non-human intelligence (not just AI) is a dawn of a new era - making us question our morals, our gods and even existence. While this scientific advancement is clearly mankinds next evolutionary stage, we also have to wonder, if it is our last? Of couse , why be pesimistic - the age of intelligence will bring new wonders and solve some of mankinds biggest problems - hunger, space travel, cancer, and more.. Be warned, this book is a mixture of science fiction, facts and possiblities - which might upset some people! The world is changing and so are we - you just have to accept this new scientific era - we can't just bury our heads in the dirt and ignore non-human intelligence! Embrace the rainbow ;)
